Hozier is not only a lyrical genius but quite the creative mind. His music videos reflect that and bring his songs to life. Here are, in my opinion, his top 10 videos ranked.
#10: Movement
While I can appreciate a video with contemporary dance in it, this one doesn't feel very choreographed. The video consists of a man who seems to be running from himself. Except as he gets into this abandoned building he stops and breaks out into dance. It is an odd one, but still interesting.
#9: Work Song
I love whenever I get the chance to see Hozier singing. And he is in the man-bun. It seems like a gathering of people in what looks like it could be a church to watch him and some of them breakout in dance. Unlike the video for movement, this dance feels more choreographed, which makes for a cleaner video.
#8: To Be Alone
Just Hozier, his guitar, and a random old building in a field. Did I mention it’s him actually singing and not the track? Yeah, Hozier in the raw. So not only does it sound amazing, it is very visually appealing and calming.
#7: Jackie and Wilson
Its Hozier just being himself on tour. The song is a very good road trip vibe so it’s only fitting the video is him on the road. There is also a second “Official Video” of him singing the song live and his vocals are just *chefs kiss*
#6: Someone New
The video seems to tell the story of a girl who is always with someone different. Someone New (see what I did there?). I like the storytelling aspect of the video and the fact it sort of fits with the song. Plus its Natalie Dormer and she is just amazing.
#5: Cherry Wine
Unlike the lyrics of the song, the video shows a case of domestic violence toward a woman, played by none other than Saoirse Ronan. The song itself is so calming that you can almost miss the meaning behind it, of loving someone even when they abuse you. In the song it seems to be about a woman abusing a man. The music video was well done and when he released it, Hozier made it so all proceeds went towards domestic abuse charities worldwide.
#4: Dinner and Diatribes
To sum up this video in 3 words: Scary. Weird. Anya Taylor-Joy. Ok so maybe two words and a name. Still, the song itself is so fun and exciting, the video fits the vibes. It is weird and to see Hozier dressed up like that was scary but it is such an exciting video and so visually appealing. Definitely one of his more intricate videos.
#3: Almost (Sweet Music)
I love this song so it is hard to not love the video. Not only do you get to see Hozier singing but also an array of people dancing and hanging with friends. The man tap dancing, Cameron Boyce and Christine Flores dancing, people hanging out in a group and playing different instruments. It all came together so beautifully
#2:Take Me To Church
What a classic. The song and video that started it all. The video holds a powerful message of two men in love who get attacked and have to go on the run because of that love. Homophobia and violence against the LGBTQ+ community is something that still occurs today and the video holds the same power now as it did back then.
#1: From Eden
Is it a shocker that my favorite song of his holds the number one spot? This video is so intriguing to me because it tells a story that is different from the lyrics of the song. But yet it does it in a way that it matches up with the music and fits so well together. Having this story of a man and his family on the run and hiding out. Except it is shown in such a bright light instead of a negative and dark one, almost like we are seeing it from the eyes of the child, who does nothing but smile and laugh throughout the video. And the main man is played by none other than Hozier himself! It is just so interesting and I could write a whole essay on it, but I won't now. Enjoy!
*Special Mention: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Not one of his actual official videos. However, listening to him sing live is something so special. His voice carries power. It’s worth the watch.
